The Opening Lines...
- “Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen - Before I start I’d just like to tell you all, as some of you might not know me, that the groom and I grew up together, spent our formative years together so to speak. This means that he had as much of a part in developing my sense of humour as I have his. So, although I have written this speech to be as humorous as possible, please blame (groom’s name) if it's not.”
- “Ladies and Gentlemen - Let me first say that the bridesmaids look stunning today, and only outshone by our bride, (bride’s name). Gentlemen, I'm sure you'll agree that today sees a terrible loss for single men, as another beauty leaves the available list. And ladies, I'm sure you'll agree that today is passing by without so much as a ripple.”
- “Good evening, Ladies and Gentlemen- I am the best man, so in time-honoured tradition I will now do my best to give (groom’s name) the most uncomfortable five minutes of his life. For the record, the most uncomfortable five minutes of (bride’s name) life will be later on this evening, courtesy of (groom’s name).”
- “Ladies and Gentlemen- Before I speak I must let you all know that I had a heavy night last night and I’m still feeling quite fragile. So, although it will be difficult, please try not to laugh or clap too loudly during my speech, I really have a pounding headache. I should have known not to go out drinking the night before such a big day, but (groom’s name) is a mate and he needed a shoulder to cry on.”
- “Good evening, Ladies and Gentlemen- I’d like to thank you all for coming today and helping to make (groom’s name) and (bride’s name)’s wedding such a special and memorable occasion. Although, to be honest, I wish you'd all stayed at home and made my job a lot easier. But thanks for coming.”
- “Ladies and Gentlemen- For what feels like the fifth time today I rise from a warm seat with a piece of paper in my hand!”
