Writing a Groom's speech!
Most people think the best man speech is the most difficult of the wedding speeches. While the groom’s speech isn’t as long, or as eagerly anticipated, a lot more rests on it. As the groom you are not only speaking in front of your own family and friends, but a whole new set of in-laws as well.
You want to convey your feelings towards your new wife, but not be too gushing so as to provoke feelings of nausea (your audience may have just eaten). You aren’t expected to provide as many laughs as the best man in his speech, but a well delivered joke or two is great to balance out the sentimentality.
The groom’s speech should be sincere and entertaining, yet full of the right thank you's and personal mentions. If you’re expecting a barrage of embarrassing tales from your best man, you could use this opportunity to get one in first, keep it tame though.
We have created a groom speech template to guide you through writing your groom’s speech. You can take inspiration from classic groom speech opening lines and groom speech jokes when writing your speech.
